It seems alcohol is the only drug on the planet that you have to justify not taking when you want to go non alcoholic.
Life is more fun without booze. Its amazing though how many adults (the majority actually) believe that drinking alcohol is the key to having a good time. I blew this myth out of the water – I experimented and became more present. Society says you must drink, even if it makes you feel sick. The experiment showed me that drinking did in fact make me feel anxious and unwell. It’s common sense that something that makes you feel so bad is obviously not good for you.
Why the hell would you do that???
I did some research and frankly did not have to delve too deeply. It is widely touted that drinking red wine every day has health benefits. Not only is this untrue, but alcohol was declared a known carcinogen in 1988. If you want the health benefits they speak of, why not eat some red grapes – they contain the resveratrol that is supposed to be giving you the benefits
What Health Benefits?
I know many don’t care about the health benefits of drinking alcohol or not. Being mindful and informed though, about something that can and does cause so much disease, death, unhappiness, addiction, deterioration of relationships and family units is powerful. Fortunately society is changing, albeit slowly. Non-alcoholic beers and spirits flooding the worldwide market are frequently sold out – whereas their alcoholic counterparts are not. Food (drink!) for thought.

Mindfully drinking – is it wrong to have non-alcoholic spirits?
If you want to drink, do it, but perhaps dig a little to find out the reasons why and make a call from there. And perhaps be mindful that because I don’t drink, there is actually nothing wrong with “me”. Judgement is nearly always passed.
There are many non-alcoholic spirits on the market.
On a lighter note, and one that could possibly help the transition if you choose. Try these delicious non-alcoholic recipes. Can you believe there are actually non-alcoholic rums, G & Ts, whiskeys and many other spirits. Seedlip was one of the first non-alcoholic upper echelon purveyors to enter this now exploding market.
